AhlulBayt News Agency: Hujjat al-Islam Syed Sajid Ali Naqvi, Chairman of the Shia Ulema Council of Pakistan, has declared that the movement of Karbala remains a living and eternal source of resistance against tyranny, urging Muslims to embody the values of Imam Hussain (AS) in confronting modern-day oppression and injustice.
In a statement issued on the occasion of Ashura, Syed Sajid Naqvi reflected on the profound significance of Imam Hussain’s (AS) stand against the corrupt rule of Yazid, emphasizing that Karbala is not a mere historical incident, but a spiritual and universal movement that continues to resonate with all freedom-loving people.
“Karbala is a beacon of truth, dignity, and human rights. Its message transcends time and touches the conscience of every free soul,” he said.
Naqvi described the era of Yazid as one of spiritual decline and moral corruption, where Islamic values were distorted, social justice was abandoned, and personal greed replaced the public good.
“The Islamic laws were mocked, Satanic principles guided governance, and the treasury of Muslims was looted for personal gain. In such darkness, Imam Hussain (AS) rose with courage, knowledge, and unwavering faith to revive the true path of Islam.”
He praised Imam Hussain’s journey from Medina to Karbala as a mission of reform, not rebellion, one that sought to revive righteousness, oppose evil, and awaken the Muslim ummah to its responsibilities.
“Imam Hussain (AS) endured unimaginable suffering not for power or position, but to defend the divine message of his grandfather, the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). His sacrifice created an unmatched epic of honor and martyrdom in the history of humanity.”
Naqvi reiterated that the core of the Hussaini movement lies in universal human values—justice, dignity, resistance against oppression, and commitment to truth—values that should inspire all believers regardless of sect, nationality, or background.
In a call to action, he urged Muslims to reflect on the message of Karbala in the context of today’s challenges:
“If, in our time, we see laws that oppose the Sharia, injustice prevailing, and the fundamental rights of people being violated, then we must rise, as Imam Hussain (AS) did, and strive for reform.”
He encouraged mourners of Ashura to renew their pledge of loyalty to the path of Imam Hussain (AS) and to actively work toward personal and societal transformation:
